Week 7 Term 4

Hello,

I went to a place called olympia gym and I learnt how to do tricks with hula hoops, stand on beams and do tricks, tricks on trampolines and did a course. It was fun. The rest of the week was normal, but here is a picture.

Cantamath Blog

 Hello,

For the past five or so weeks, my class, including me, has been doing an activity named Cantamath. What happens is you make a project with could be a game, a dynamic model, a poster, a motive, and many other things. You must make two of these projects in under five weeks and will be judged after that. There are three ratings: Excellince (being the best), highly commended (being the second best), and nothing (just nothing). I made: a slide ball labyrinth type game with two of my other friends, and a motive for next year's Cantamath competition. Here's some pictures:

Term 3 Week 4

Hello,

In class we're doing this thing called lit circles. How it works is you read a book and do specific tasks on the chapter/chapters you read, like for instance, finding words you don't know what they mean in the book, finding the definition, and putting the word into your own sentence to prove you know what the word means. There are many other tasks, and I'm reading the book: A series of Unfortunate events: The Bad Beginning. but lately I've come to a problem. I lost my book. Either I lost it or someone took mine because mine was in better condition than theirs. There's a number on the books which tells which book was which. Mine was 1009. I'm fairly sure that mine was the only book in all of the Hillery Hub which was in excellent condition.

Week 5 Term 2

Hello!

It was Mother's day last Sunday. I've been practising making pikelets so I made them for Mum on Mother's Day. They turned out really well and weren't deformed unlike my last ones :)
My sisters also made cards and art pieces.

Ever since level 3 I've been doing mountain biking. It's waaaay more fun than doing rando bike rides here and there.

It's lockdown level 2! We just need to wait until Monday and then we'll be going back to school.

Anyway, I've been doing alot of work this week and I'm feeling good that I've got a lot of weight off my shoulders and I have more free time now.

Term 2 Week 3

Hello!

This week I've decided to train for cross country.
It's really fun, and if I were to run around a 400m track, I can do it in 1.24 minutes!!
That's my best on 400m, but when I run 3km, I can only run it in 15 minutes. So that's been great.

I'd have to say reading is the most fun, because who wouldn't want to make a catapult out of lego or make a fake text between two characters in a story?

To stay in touch with our teachers, we have this app called 'Zoom' it's pretty much an app where you invite people to a video call and chat about stuff in / or not in lockdown. And I'd have to say it's a lot less laggy then some other video call apps. I'm looking at you Google Duos!!

Week 1 Term 2

Hi,

It was Easter earlier this week, so I just want to talk about it.
I woke up to be told that my Mum had hidden my Easter egg and I had to find it. Which was okay but the clue I got wasn't the best 'what do you use in summer?' is what I got. My brother; Jacob was a bit lazy so he just wanted his egg straight forward without having to find it. My sisters; Catherine and Hayley got extremely easy clues: It's under the tree near the elephant & near the tool box. They both found theirs in two seconds flat. Me however, had some trouble. I eventually found it on the bbq, under the lid. Which, doesn't really go with 'what do you use in summer?' as a clue. Well anyway, after that we went on a refreshing 5 km walk. Then we just enjoyed the rest of the day.

I've been kind of struggling with my work, since doing work at home doesn't feel very natural. Anyway, I'm kind of getting through my work so it's all good.

First Blog of 2020

Kia ora!

Hi again, it has been a while. This is my first post for the year, so I hope you like it!

This years theme for the school will be change. So at lunchtime, the teachers go around giving 'changemaker' awards. If you get one, you leave it in a bucket so that in assembly, year 8s will dip their hand in the bucket and if they pull out your name, you go up and get a $2 dollar award. This could be a fancy pencil, a stationary kit, bookmark, stickers, etc. It's really funny because when the year 8s go up they're in a caterpillar or butterfly costume showing 'change' in how the caterpillar became a butterfly.

We started a reading activity called Chapter Challenge. It's a cool activity where we listen to a book or a read the book and then, from that, we do activities based on the story like; draw a mechanical horse, make a catapult, do research on old money called sovereigns, write a new song for a character to sing, etc. THEN once you've done that, on Friday you go onto Twitter and post all your work for a few other schools to see. Of course, the other schools post work as well for you to look at. And, that's really the gist of it. Here's a piece of my work:

It's a catapult made from K'nex bricks. It was one of the many activities.

We had swimming sports, that was a bit of fun although, I'm not a swimmer. Luckily I got to the finals in freestyle, but my streak of luck died and I didn't get to zones.

Science Show

Hi!

Yesterday these people came in a big truck to show us about science!

It was super fun! My favorite thing they showed us was a glass ball with a certain type of ore in the middle of it that was radiating static electricity. If you touched the ball, all the electricity would go to where you touched it. It was so cool!

So... yeah! It was a blast seeing all the science!

Marshmallow Challenge!

Hello!

Today we did an epic challenge where you get uncooked spaghetti and sellotape the spaghetti together to make a structure, then you put a single marshmallow at the very top to mark how big it is. You only got 15 minutes to do all that though!

I was with Nicholas & Mathew. They were a big contribute to the team and super good teammates!
We got a metre string, a metre sellotape, 20 sticks of uncooked spaghetti and a marshmallow. Starting out it was good, but it kept falling over so we restarted, before realising we only had 3 minutes lefta!! We quickly tried to make a new design but it flopped :(

Here's a picture of us working:

Production 2019!!

Hello,

Yesterday we had a school production. It was called 'Goodbye My Friend' by Andrew Oxspring. It was about four year eight kids on their last day of school remembering all the stuff they did. Like, a Monday morning routine would be chaos for everyone because everyone is stuck into weekend mode & they're still in weekend mode on a Monday Morning so they're late & don't remember what to do & stuff like that. There were eleven scenes of the memories of what they did & in between each one a class would dance to a song associated with the previous scene. This phenomenon (lol) would be called a 'class act'.

My class act was called 'Hey, T.A!' It was about an amazing Teacher Assistant who would be good at: Using a photocopier, Cleaning up gross 'incidents' that would happen by the infants (year one's), helping the kids in general, caring for the kids, etc.

Apart from my class act, I was the bus driver in the actual play/thing. I had three lines, which were: OI! ANY NONSENSE & YER OFF! NOW MOVE IT! So are we ready then? Or what. I have other jobs to do today y'know. | Now listen here, I AM NOT. CLEAN'IN THAT UP!

My favorite scene (& I'm not gonna be the person who picks their own scene) is the scene three because it's funny when they have to go out for P.E but it's pouring rain and super cold. But the teacher says it's okay and a 'little drizzle' won't stop them doing P.E and when the teacher comes out he's wearing a scarf, ski jacket and a whole load of other warm clothes.

In the end, the production this year was awesome!

Term 2 Reflection

Hello,

This term I have done lots of stuff, including making videos for teachers, stuff like that. There was a time that I thought was special, so I'll talk about that. For Assembly and Sparkle day, I had to make a video showing everyone in room 4 showing their speeches, work, etc. The assembly one was showing everyone in my class's eel inquiry. It was like eel signs, eel puppet shows and tuna town houses. Tuna town houses are just things to hide eels in the water. Well, that was that. The sparkle day one was everyone just sat down and said something to do with sparkling.

Friday 31 August

Hi,

My name is Luke and I will be showing you my weekly reflection.

This week the Wattie's cans have ended and we have made a picture of the cans below:

I have been learning this week how to make an information report.

Cross Country! 2019

Hi!

Get your flags out, because cross country's here! To be honest I wasn't really keen on cross country at first. Last year I came 6th and I was put out of breath completely. This time I really enjoyed myself, I knew the distance better and I really gave it my all. At the end I came 2nd!!!! I was incredibly happy. Oliver Mathias came 1st. And yes I am bringing out the full names. Harrison O'Connell came 3rd, and I can't quite touch who came 4th. Next year I will be looking forward to cross country.

Inquiry Term 2 Week 8

Hi,

For inquiry this year I have been doing the 'Market Day.' The Market day is a day in term 3 when me and my group, plus everyone else in the Batten team (I think the Hillary hub do it at a different time.) do a thing where we all set up a stand and sell things or set up fair games for people to play. Speaking of my group, I am in a group with 2 other people, Martin & Joshua. We've got a super good idea. People said that in the past, people have gotten big bucks by this idea that we're doing like, about $200.00 dollars. It was a fair game where you set up 4 pieces of wood in a square shape, spread out some prizes then tape chicken wire above the 4 pieces of wood.  People stand 2 steps back and throw any coin in. If your coin lands on a chocolate bar or any other treat we put under the chicken wire, you win it. And that's it. Here's a drawing of what it would look like:

Sparkle Day 2019

Hello,

Last week was Sparkle week when we dress up in a sparkly outfit to show that 'we sparkle'. 'Sparkling' meant that we would like, 'spread a little sparkle wherever we go.' Or something like that. In the morning when I was getting ready I realized that I hadn't have anything sparkly to wear at all. So I went to the warehouse, got sparkly crowns & fake moustaches. I don't even know why I got the fake moustaches, they didn't sparkle. I guess it just appealed to me when I saw them in the packet. lol. Anyway, it was a blast. When I went to assembly at the end of the day it was funny seeing everyone in their sparkly outfits. The only problem was the fake moustache I was wearing got super itchy near the end of the day. Here's a video I made for sparkle day:

Cycle Safety!

Hello,

On last Monday & Tuesday I, and the other year 6s that were in group 1 did a thing called: cycle safety. To sum it up, I learnt how to act on a road. On Monday, the first day of it; we stayed at school and learnt things like signaling, lifesaver look, 5 Ls, the top of the T goes before me, etc. Your probably wondering what the 5 L's are, well First L: Levers, (brake) Second: Lean, (Your bike) Third: look, fourth: leg over fifth: Leave. That's for when you've stopped and you want to go onto your bike. (It's actually 4 L's I just added leave.) The lifesaver look is when you look before you turn right onto the main road at an intersection. (When on a side road.) It's called 'lifesaver' because to turn right onto a main road you will have to go into the middle of the road before turning and if you don't do the look and go straight into the middle, you will have a chance of being hit by a car.

Signaling is just putting out one of your arms depended on what way your going to tell the cars behind you what your about to do. Top of the T goes before me. Let's explain that now. The top of the T is the main road and you are on the side road. The main road always goes straight, and always goes first. The main road is the top of the pile.
