Refugee Day!

Hello,

This year's caritas focus is South Sudan so we celebrated Refugee day on it. I guess that's why we had it after all.

After a group photo of the entire Batten team, I collected cardboard with my team, Josh, Jay, Bryn, Charlie S, Oscar and Justin. We started to build a cardboard fort but it wouldn't stay up. Josh looked at what the others were doing and came up with an awesome idea! It was to put the boxes on its side then put an old curtain over top and it looked great! We also made a little storage area that was made of a box that had one of its side cut off so we can put stuff in, then a bag that you would use for bag race duck taped over top so it's like a door. We then made a security box made with a box with the top cut off then bags over top and at the front, a cut flap so that the person inside can look out and take passports n' stuff. To get inside of it you would just take the bags off then put one leg in, then the other, put the bag race bags over top and boom your in. It was a big box so I could fit in it comfortably, though we had Josh, Charlie S and Jay in it the most because they were more comfortable inside as they were smaller than the likes of me, Oscar, Bryn, or Justin. Then, Oscar cut a flap inside of the fort and any person from the outside would draw pictures on cardboard with permanent marker, lower the flap and put the picture where the flap would close or open to act like a TV from anyone inside. After our fort was made it was lunch, and they gave us rice to eat because that's what the people of South Sudan would eat once per day. After lunch, the little kids from the Rutherford team went to check out our forts. The little kids loved to come inside and check out the TV especially if it had the spongebob picture on! 

The day was REALLY fun, I wish it lasted for longer. It was a real blast and was a kick back for anyone who was having bad days previously or something like that. And, it was great that teachers were thinking outside of the box for the activity!
