First Blog of 2020

Kia ora!

Hi again, it has been a while. This is my first post for the year, so I hope you like it!

This years theme for the school will be change. So at lunchtime, the teachers go around giving 'changemaker' awards. If you get one, you leave it in a bucket so that in assembly, year 8s will dip their hand in the bucket and if they pull out your name, you go up and get a $2 dollar award. This could be a fancy pencil, a stationary kit, bookmark, stickers, etc. It's really funny because when the year 8s go up they're in a caterpillar or butterfly costume showing 'change' in how the caterpillar became a butterfly.

We started a reading activity called Chapter Challenge. It's a cool activity where we listen to a book or a read the book and then, from that, we do activities based on the story like; draw a mechanical horse, make a catapult, do research on old money called sovereigns, write a new song for a character to sing, etc. THEN once you've done that, on Friday you go onto Twitter and post all your work for a few other schools to see. Of course, the other schools post work as well for you to look at. And, that's really the gist of it. Here's a piece of my work:

It's a catapult made from K'nex bricks. It was one of the many activities.

We had swimming sports, that was a bit of fun although, I'm not a swimmer. Luckily I got to the finals in freestyle, but my streak of luck died and I didn't get to zones.

Science Show

Hi!

Yesterday these people came in a big truck to show us about science!

It was super fun! My favorite thing they showed us was a glass ball with a certain type of ore in the middle of it that was radiating static electricity. If you touched the ball, all the electricity would go to where you touched it. It was so cool!

So... yeah! It was a blast seeing all the science!

Marshmallow Challenge!

Hello!

Today we did an epic challenge where you get uncooked spaghetti and sellotape the spaghetti together to make a structure, then you put a single marshmallow at the very top to mark how big it is. You only got 15 minutes to do all that though!

I was with Nicholas & Mathew. They were a big contribute to the team and super good teammates!
We got a metre string, a metre sellotape, 20 sticks of uncooked spaghetti and a marshmallow. Starting out it was good, but it kept falling over so we restarted, before realising we only had 3 minutes lefta!! We quickly tried to make a new design but it flopped :(

Here's a picture of us working:

Production 2019!!

Hello,

Yesterday we had a school production. It was called 'Goodbye My Friend' by Andrew Oxspring. It was about four year eight kids on their last day of school remembering all the stuff they did. Like, a Monday morning routine would be chaos for everyone because everyone is stuck into weekend mode & they're still in weekend mode on a Monday Morning so they're late & don't remember what to do & stuff like that. There were eleven scenes of the memories of what they did & in between each one a class would dance to a song associated with the previous scene. This phenomenon (lol) would be called a 'class act'.

My class act was called 'Hey, T.A!' It was about an amazing Teacher Assistant who would be good at: Using a photocopier, Cleaning up gross 'incidents' that would happen by the infants (year one's), helping the kids in general, caring for the kids, etc.

Apart from my class act, I was the bus driver in the actual play/thing. I had three lines, which were: OI! ANY NONSENSE & YER OFF! NOW MOVE IT! So are we ready then? Or what. I have other jobs to do today y'know. | Now listen here, I AM NOT. CLEAN'IN THAT UP!

My favorite scene (& I'm not gonna be the person who picks their own scene) is the scene three because it's funny when they have to go out for P.E but it's pouring rain and super cold. But the teacher says it's okay and a 'little drizzle' won't stop them doing P.E and when the teacher comes out he's wearing a scarf, ski jacket and a whole load of other warm clothes.

In the end, the production this year was awesome!

Term 2 Reflection

Hello,

This term I have done lots of stuff, including making videos for teachers, stuff like that. There was a time that I thought was special, so I'll talk about that. For Assembly and Sparkle day, I had to make a video showing everyone in room 4 showing their speeches, work, etc. The assembly one was showing everyone in my class's eel inquiry. It was like eel signs, eel puppet shows and tuna town houses. Tuna town houses are just things to hide eels in the water. Well, that was that. The sparkle day one was everyone just sat down and said something to do with sparkling.
